So in Device Manager it says in the "Computer" key that i have an "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" and in the "Processor" key it has 2 entries for my processor, a Pentium 4 running at 2.8 Ghz. How is this possible if I don't have a dual core machine? The computer is 2 yeard old this month!

The "ACPI Multi-processor...." and all of the possible other entries are names of the "Hardware Abstraction Layer" or HAL the operating system is using to set up its parameters. It has nothing to do with what kind of processor is in the system.
