AVI & MPG convertors

Hi there,

I'm wanting to convert some .AVI and .MPG files to DVD compatable files so that I can burn them.

Anyone know of any software that will do this and doesn't have spyware?

ive used it and it works well. Ive only had a minor probs when i tried to convert between pal and ntsc.

When buring a DVD, do I need a special DVD disc or can I use a CD?

you can burn dvd format stuff onto CDs.. just that CD can contain very little stuff in DVD format (last time i tried, i managed to squeeze 15 mins of video)..

ok, if you want a movie to fit on a dvd you can either encode it as a XVID/DIVX, this can only be played on your computer or a special DIVX player but not on a DVD player. There is a program called DVD Shrink that can compress a movie > 4.5gb so it will fit onto a Single Layer disc, i suppose you can use it to compress it < 700mb so theoretically it will play in a normal DVD player but:
1. The quality wont be good.
2. The DVD player might not like playing dvd files of a CD.
