Automatic updates installed some updates on my machine the other day and recently I've had problems running Windows Explorer & Windows Media Player because of something called Data Execution Prevention. According to Microsoft DEP does the following:

Understanding Data Execution Prevention Data Execution Prevention (DEP) helps prevent damage from viruses and other security threats that attack by running (executing) malicious code from memory locations that only Windows and other programs should use. This type of threat causes damage by taking over one or more memory locations in use by a program. Then it spreads and harms other programs, files, and even your e-mail contacts

I've put both in the ignore list and they are now working OK, but it's weird that the only programs to cause this problem are both part of the OS.

Anyone else have this problem?

To remove the updates go into your add and remove program list and click on show updates then just remove the update as you would a normal application.
