Node Clusters and Supercomputers

Hey I just started reading on how people will create node clusters with xbox's and ps2's and such to create "supercomputers" similar to servers and the real supercomputers.

Does anyone know if and howsomthing like this can be accomplished with your ordinary desktop windows xp computer?

Nevermind, everything that I have read uses Linux, and involved way too much money and work than I'm interested in
