CDRom drive not working

The cd drive on my Dell SmartPC just stopped working today for no apparent reason. Now my computer doesn't recognise that it has a drive attached. The drivers are there but it says it can't find the hardware.

Has it just died or is there another reason? The light still comes on, and it opens and shuts.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd just try to Re-Install it. Quick & Easy!
PS, Make sure the IDE Cable is Plugged in

My computer is a laptop and it has a strange looking connector on the back that doesn't look like an IDE.

It seems to slot back in correctly.

What exactly do you mean by reinstalling it?

What is the exact error that you are getting? Check the event viewer to get details beyond device manager too...
