memory configurations

I have a asus K8n-E delux with 512(256x2)of ddr 400 ram, i realize this isnt enough so i bought a 1gb stick of the same corsair ram. My motherboard has 3 dimm slots and doesnt support dual channal. In my manual under configurations the max speed for one and two dimms is ddr 400, but for three dimms it's highest is ddr 333, does this mean that if I put the 1g stick in with the other two I can only run at 333, if so would I be better off at running just the one gig stick? Any answer would be much appreciated because I don't want to get rid of perfectly good ram.

I guess if you felt like it needed to run at 400, you could put the gig stick in, and then put one of the 256 back in, totalling 1268 MB ram @ 400
