Hey, I'm having some problems with a new HDD I just bought to add some storage to my PC. It's an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MB with 2 IDE drives, 120Gig WD main and a 6Gig Toshiba from an old PC. I bought a Seagate 250Gig S-ATA drive and installed it on SATA 1 on the motherboard, but it's not being recognized.

Can I use just one SATA drive with 2 main IDE drives? I'm still new to SATA and RAID and I'm not sure that you can run only one SATA drive.

Can someone please make sense of this for me?

BTW, running XP Pro SP2

Thanks again!

Yes. My desktop has 2 satas, and 2 patas in it without any issue. I had a problem with my mobo reconizing seagate sata drives. It reconizes the WD without issue. I bought a cheap-o sata controller and it reconizes both without issue.

I was just speaking to a friend and he told me that I shouldn't need a RAID controller at all, since I'm only using one SATA drive and RAID is used to mirror or stripe two drives.

Any other input?

and make sure the sata driver are installed. this is what trips up most people
