thanks for the help all.

I just need you to answer one question, and that's all. Not even sure it's possible, but it's importent.

Would this MB:

ASUS A8V-E Deluxe Socket 939 VIA K8T890 ATX AMD Motherboard

Support a Socket A processor, or would it only accept 939s.

thanks for all the help

ok, i've looked at the A8N-E and it seems pretty good. Just want to double check. It can use Athlon XP (socket A) chips AND AMD 64 chips (which i assume is 754).

read the whole thread thought at least one person would give you a direct answer by now but nope.

No it will not hold athlon xp and athlon 64

Here the answer you been looking for but you wont like it. There is no such thing as a motherboard that will support your old skt A cpu and a athlon 64. A skt A motherboard can only hold skt A cpus. A skt 754 motherboard can only hold skt 754 cpus. A skt 939 motherboard can only hold skt 939 cpus. Getting the piciture.

There might be a few exceptions of board that hold skt 754 and skt 939 but never seen a skt A board that could run skt 754 or skt 939.

You either going to have to decide to upgrade motherboard and cpu or buy a motherboard that will have no upgrade options.
