well yo ustill need to know what ocket it is i dont think you can fo ryour compaq i may be wrong. But you still need to find out the socket other wise you will fry the computer .

bro the duron is a 1.3 ghz most likely socket A and that athlon is an Athlon Palomino most likely running at 1.7 ghz as specified by the 1700 in the number you listed. if the processsors look the same they're both socket A because they didn't come out with such speeds on any other socket.
