the scan restarts over and over. and i reformated and did a clean install about 2 years ago. and they dont install that much, they have just used it for taxes and email, and my grandpa is pharmacist so he hasa drug database on there, but that that is all they do

I am assuming you went Start > Shutdown, and didn't just hit the power button when it was grinding?

i coudlnt get past the icons loading because it would freeze. i couldnt click the start button.

Ah, I see. And the famous Ctl>Alt>Delete wouldn't work either?

BTW i opened it up and the processor fan is the one grinding and the hard drive is screeching. it seems like there is no hope for this computer.

ok nvm i fixed the cpu fan probelm. but what about the hard drive. i fixed the cpu fan problem with compressed air.

Yeah, its always good to dust your computer every so often.

Why not just get your grandparents to buy another harddrive? I am assuming they don't need a very big one, and smaller harddrives are really cheap.
