Is there a way to boot from another computer?

the crappy hard drive has a little connector board on it and when I try to put it into the housing of the HP it does not fit because of the little connector board sits too high. Is it ok if I use the external in this case?

However, I also have an HP L2000. I'll try it on that before I resort to the external case.

any chance you can post a picture? Most LT hard drives have differnt housings for different machines. They can all be removed to get down to the standard config. I'm hoping this is what you are dealing with...

Ok, new problem.

I am using an official 98 boot disk with the 98 cd in the cd drive.

I got to a point where it gives and E: prompt and says

says "cannot create a temporary directory"
If you have HPFS or NTFS installed on your hard drive, you will need to creast an MS-DOS boot partition to set up windows"

What do I do?
