hello people. Problem after upgrading my pc. I bought a new pc recently and got it all working and everythings been fine. Its been running on 512mb ddr pc2700 ram. I pulled 2 sticks of 256mb ddr pc2700 ram from an old machine that used to have 2x256 and 1x512 running along side eachother. I try and use the 2x256 and 1x512 in my new machine but i can only use one or the other.........wat am i doing wrong?

The motherboard supports dual channel ram, so you can not have 2 in dual and one in single channel.

Edit: you could try having the ram in this configuration, the 2 256's in the same channel, and the 512 in the other. There is no guarentees, but it did work sometimes on the socket A's.

Try putting the ram in 256 than 512 then 256 order (or depending on your motherboard 256, 256, 512 - for if it is channel 1 2 1) so the motherboard will either make it so none of the ram works in dual channel, or like what I said above, but that was more for socket A.

did you put the 2x256 in together side by side and then the 512 single? I think that is what trifid is suggesting.

yeah cos the board has coloured slots, i put the 2x256 on the first 2 with the same coloured slots then the 512 in the 3rd slot which was a different colour. In my last pc i had them 1 2 1, 256 512 256 and it worked fine.
