I have a laptop I bought at a garage sale and I'm going to give it to my mom strictly for email and I was going to upgrade the EDO memory but I don't know what brand the computer is? I don't know how much I can upgrade it to either. Where can I find out what type of computer this is? I can't just use any EDO memory can I? I have tried selecting properties on "my computer" but it just shows

x86 Family 5 Model 4 Stepping
3
AT/AT Compatible
64,824 RAM

I am running windows 2000 on it but I think I should be running 98 or do they use the same amount of memory?

Also, how can I find what my "system memory" and "board memory" are.

I also can't find the processor speed?

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Justin

Thanks. Do you know how much memory I can upgrade to.

Also, is "board memory" the memory that is permanent or is that the "system memory".
I can't remember which I can change?

Post a pic of the laptop, maybe one of us can ID it.

Also is there any serial ##'s or part numbers on the bottom of it?

Turn the laptop over and have a look through the manufacturer information. There has to be something on the laptop. If not a brand name, there should be a model, or at the very least, a serial number.

Once you have the information, you can start tracking things down on the web. If you have the model, you can poke through the manufacturer's website and find documentation on that particular build.

I just found a
model number of 8120

DFI- X804066

5026X-PF

MIT-X3-03-EN-1

Any suggestions. It mights as well be written in spudtnick for me?

OK, I think I found the exact computer.

http://www.zymos.ca/products/dfi/dfi8120.htm

So, if I read this correctly, I cannot upgrade it higher than 64 MB of ram?

Also, what kind of memory does it take? EDO, RAM. what the hell is a DIMM socket and where is it on this computer?

I guess if someone lets me know that 64 is the highest it will go, it doesn't really matter since it's already there.

Thanks again for the help!
