Need a VERY CHEAP gaming build

Calzinger, you obvoiusly do not know about k8s much. Processors can easily overclock well. You do not need good ram. The motherboard just has to support a ram divider. Here is an example of a 105 dollar processor combined with a 73 dollar motherboard that will overclock to 2500MHZ using the ram divider.

You do not need dedicated cooling. You just need a motherboard that supports overclocking, and there are many out there. You need a processor that is capable of reaching those speeds. The AMD k8s are good examples. Even the cheap ones are good ocers. This is all you need. Even the stock heatsink fan is good enough. You defenetly need to read more articles out there cal. I think people have brainwashed you into thinking that you need the top of the line products to even have a half decent overclock.

And Hacp, you must read.

Nowhere did I suggest that he needed some insane quality RAM in order to OC his CPU. Just adjust the ratio, hence the RAM divider. You can OC with value RAM, that has already been proven.

Then please, throw me some benchmarks where high OCs were reached with garbage cooling. The best I have heard was a 500mhz OC with air cooling, but that was with a decent system, not some budget stuff. Otherwise, I haven't heard any sort of great OC from such a lower-end system with trash cooling.

The link I provided. Thermaltake silent boost K8. Thats a 30 dollar cooler. I have a 34 dollar cooler listed in my list. Point proven.

I will repeat myself. I'd like to see reliable benchmarks with numbers with a stock cooler or aftermarket cooler on a budget PC. Better yet, just a stock cooler since I didn't see an aftermarket cooler in his build.

@Counter-strike
GPU RAM is almost irrelevant and should not be your deciding factor. Stick with the 6600GT. Many will argue that the 9800XT is a good budget card (which it is), but I'm pretty sure that the 6600GT is a good deal better if you can afford it.

Calzinger, If you look at the build I posted for him you will see an aftermarket cooler. Thank you. At 120+33 dollars, it is only 7 dollars more expensive than the retail sollution you posted as the alternative.

Then I must have missed it. It was a good deal of pages back. And you're welcome? (if you need that kind of reassurance)

And what retail solution did I post as an alternative? The XP-90?

The Thermalright XP-90 is very good heatsink for cheaper than that Thermaltake. I mean come on, look at the damn thing! If there are benchmarks proving otherwise, please by all means post them as I could easily be mistaken.

And I'm still waiting for those benchmarks on OC'ing a very budget PC with stock/aftermarket cooling.

Thermalright=50 dollars with heatsink+fan. Thermaltake=33 dollars shipped. As I said, look at the xbitlabs link I gave you. Budget processor+budget motherboard. They uesd a ram divider even though the ram was physically able to get to 250 MHZ. Link provided wayyyy back.

This is on the first page.

The kingston ram is not nationwide. Check your ads to see if it applies to you. If you can't find the ram for that price, I would just get 512 MB of this. 512 MB isn't THAT bad for gaming, and you can always add 512 more later. Just make sure that you close all unnecessary programs, and remove all the eye candy from the desktop before you play your games. There are usually super cheap ram deals, so I would wait like 2 weeks before I check the ram out.

Hope this helps. 26 dollars over budget......... But everythings calculated shipped. Hope newegg/etc don't tax you.

I made two edits, I changed the video card, and added the part about the ram. Also, here is the Link to the overclock+benchies. It was posted on the page before this, but you must have overlooked it.

You could always buy the retail CPU since it's basically the same price as the OEM. Then just use that fan on the XP-90. Even if it comes out to a few bucks more, the difference is well worth it.

Well I have read that GPU RAM is able to render larger images with a bigger interface.
