Will it cause me any grief to use an IDE DVD-ROM instead of a more expensive SATA drive? Just trying to find the cheapest solution but wanted to make sure the IDE and SATA controllers wouldn't conflict in any way.

Might as well stay with the times, if you can afford the SATA, go with it.

& to answer your question, No, it shouldn't be a problem/

well it owuld be cheaper to get a normal ide drive then buy a 20$ adapter to go to sata. the cheapest sata cd drive is like over 120$ i beleive last time i checked

I dont know why you guys are suggesting adapters and SATA DVD-ROMs.

There is no good reason to go and spend money on a SATA DVD-ROM or even a burner.

If more airflow is required, then you can get round IDE cables.

And, to answer the original question: You will not encounter any problems by adding an IDE CD/DVD-ROM/RW/etc while you use a SATA HD. In fact, I am on my computer now, which has a SATA HD and an IDE DVD-RW.
