I am running on windows ME.

When I start up my system an alerrt box opens and says "Rundll.dll caused an error". and shows a close button.

From the moment, I am getting this error,
1)My Mouse does not work.

2)My desk top displays 16-bit color only. Even If I change it to 32-bit color, it is not being saved.

Is this due to a Virus? please help me.

alright now what you can do is boot up the system in safe mode and disable the startup items in system configuration utility
after that restart the system
and check out if the problem still persists
then go ahead and try doing a system restore by the following method

insert the recovery CD in CD drive and
go windows advanced option menu
in the advanced option menu please select the option safemode with command prompt
after that if the prompt is A:\> then change it to C:\>
and type the path c:\>windows\command\ scanreg /restore

and after that choose the date your computer was working fine
and hit ok
restart the computer after the completion of process , most probably the problem will be resolved
if not then go ahead with non destructive recovery

Thanks Pankaj, I will try this tonight EST and let you know, If I still have problem.

Thanks.

Could be a virus/trojan (there is one that messes with rundll). Update your virus definitions & run a full scan in safe mode.

Could also be some new software that you installed, which is not properly closing or is leaving threads open. Have you installed any new software lately (even a new mouse driver)?

Closing this Topic.

I did not installed any thing just before this problem.

I tried all the ways as Pankaj told me. Nothing worked.

So I did non-destructive Recovery. Now I got a new problem.

The system is turning on in Safe mode only.

I took it to the Best buy as I still got warranty. He said, it could be Bad hard drive or Bad sectors. He is going to fix it for me.

Thanks guys.
