I need some opinions on a computer. This really puts me in a tight spot. But they said they want to spend $450 and they want to play games at a decent quality. Well right now I have tried putting a system together on newegg and I would like to know what people here think of what would be a good build for $450

Intel or AMD it is does not matter.

Athlon XP-M 2400+
Abit NF7-v2
6600GT
TT Purepower 480w
512MB value RAM
80GB Drive

That's what I'd personally get, if it's overbudget you can always shave down to a 9600XT and you should still be ok

Heyyo,

003, that's reccomended, BUT look at their budget. Remember, not everyone's got big money to spend on comps. He probably just wants a decent gaming rig. One that'll keep the framerate smooth, with decent looking graphics.

Quick list...

cpu AMD AthalonXP 3000+ $115.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103381

mobo: gigabyte GA-7N400S-L $58.00 (now gigabyte ain't the best, but they do have nice prices on their mobos)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128275

vidcard: EVGA 6600GT ($144.00 with mail in rebate! nice)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130220

Now it comes with onboard sound, this should be ok for a budget comp, otherwise you could always get like an audigy gamer or something.

RAM: Samsung 512MB PC3200 DDR Ram $58.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820147111
Now I say Samsung's great cause I have 2 sticks of this ram and it works fine. Cheap ram, good preformance. Samsun rocks with monitors and ram man.. just sweetness. :)

Now this is $375.00 without S&H and Taxes. Plus, if you needed stuff like HD's, a case n' such I left you some funds there to help settle that gap. If you wanted you could see if you could find a more higher-quality mobo, might cost you an extra ~$15, but I'm too lazy to dig one up, lol. Asus is definately one of the highest quality mobo makers out there, so they're always good to get.

ok, umm but your missing a lot of stuff like hd, optical drive, case, power supply, etc... The words "gaming" and "budget" do not go well together at all. I managed to come up with a list of everything you need for just under $740. here it is:

mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813136160

cpu:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103537

ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820218062

video card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122201

hard drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148039

optical drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827129161

power supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103937

case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811196005

For gaming, it's not going to get much cheaper. Now I guess if you get an 80g hd, 512mb of ram and a 6600 vanilla, that might bring it down to $600 but that would be a very weak gaming pc. like I said, this is about the best you are gona do. if you really wana save some money, dont get a case and just have the parts on a table ;)

If you read he entire post, he says there is still money left over.

Ok thanks everyone..... I just cleared this up with the buyer of this computer.... They just want to play Flight Simulator 2k4 at a decent framerate, they currently have a computer with intrgrated graphics and a 9600 would look & run a hell of alot better........

They also want a computer that is for general use..

This is what I am going to build:

(how does this sound?)
AMD Athlon XP Barton 3000+
1GB PC-3200 Mushkin
40GB WD IDE 8mb Cache
Radeon 9600 128mb 8x AGP

Also this computer is not for me, just FYI. It is for someone else.

Heyyo,

for m$ fight sim? that would be plenty fine man. It's not a very demanding game afterall. Lol, I used to be a n00b and played m$ fight sim like.. 1997 or something with hideous graphics... get this... onna macintosh LC575! boo ya! I could run warcraft 2 pretty stable.. and.. and.. duke nukem 3D would run half-decent at a rez of 512x428 lol! Dude I nearly destroyed my comp when I found out C&C wouldn't run onnit. :)

system requirements for M$FS2k4
Microsoft® Windows® 98/Me/XP/2000
PC with 450 MHz equivalent or higher processor
128 MB of system RAM for 2000/XP, 64 MB RAM for 98/Me
1.8 GB available hard disk space
4x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
8 MB video card required
Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
56.6 Kbps or better modem for online play

Yeah, 9600 pro would suit it just fine man. :p

[edit]

DANGERZONE! :D

Flight Simulator 2004 can be quite a demanding game. You want no less than a 9600XT to run it.
