try reformatting it. did you say it was fat32? does anyone know if win98 can support ntfs?

Win98 will NOT support NTFS. Luckily for me, that trivial fact has saved my butt a few times.

I'd like to know if BIOS recognizes it. Right after you turn on the computer, you should see somewhere on the screen "Press n for Setup" where n is a key like DEL or F2. Poke around and see if it sees the drive as 40GB.

have you got into the bios? if not, it should say how on the post screen, eg "press f2 for bios". it may refer to the bios as "setup"
