Alright. Many of you are talking about this shader model 3.0 thing that only Geforce has, and saying not to get a x800XL.

Well. Since i dont want to pay 600$ Can. for a 6800, because im ona budget, i thought of getting a 6600GT OC PCI_Exprss card.

Heres the link.

Now. My biggest problem that makes me think that the x800XL is better is..

1) x800XL is a bit more expensive. Meaning its naturally better right?

2) the x800XL is a 256mb card. Isnt that mean its twice as powereful in graphics? Doesnt that mean its better?

3) The x800XL has 16 pipelines. How much does the 6600GT have? I heard from one of my sources that i should get a x800XL because when the newer games come out, the more pipelines will be able to support the future generation of games, whereas this card (6600GT) wont. is this true?

Lastly. I just want to state that i dont plan on becoming a "hardcore" gamer where i play for 12 hours a day and need exceptionally amazing graphics. I just need to be able to play the game, and i would like decent graphics. This includes future games. I also dont want to replace this video card anytime soon.

Thanks! :)

>ps.= NO FAn boys! I NEED AN HONEST UNBIASED ANSWER!!

6600 GT
Pros: Supports PSM 3.0, great for its price, great buy all around
Cons: 8 pipes, might lose a nice chunk of performance with newer games

X800 XL
Pros: 16 pipes, also great price
Cons: No PSM 3.0 - this is a biggie

As for memory, unless it is a top of the line card, and the 6600 GT is decidedly not, the card wont need 256MB of memory. It cant even use it. If i were you, i would save up some money and get a 6800 GT.

EDIT: Here we go, $511 CDN for an eVGA 6800 GT from NCIX.com

aH. I cant afford a 500 buck card. The PCI-EXPRESS x800XL is around 399.99 Can. And the 6600GT OC PCI EXPRESS is 349.99 Can.

In your situation, if the prices are really that jacked up in Canada, then I would have to say go with the x800xl. It is a more powerful card than the 6600GT.

However, the x800xl is more comparable to the 6800GT, and in US they are roughly the same price, and in that situation it goes 6800GT hands down.

FYI
the x800XL is a 256mb card. Isnt that mean its twice as powereful in graphics? Doesnt that mean its better?
This is not true at all. Because a card has twice them memory does not even come close to meaning it is twice as powerfull. There are many other factors. For example you can get a 9800pro with 256mb of memory and a 6600GT with 128mb memory. The 6600GT blows the 9800pro away.

Check out the standard 6800, its much faster than the 6600GT because it has 256-bit memory and 12 pipelines. its also very affordable. i'm not sure what the price in canadian is, but in the US, its about $195 with shipping off of newegg.com.

well some vanilla 6800's can be unlocked to 16 pipes

and as for the 6600GT, get the non-OC one, because that OC crap is bull (the increase is so small any card can overclock to those speeds hassle-free)

Alright. I guess i "might" be thinking of buying a 6800GT. But how many pipelines does it have? Doesnt more pipelines mean better? Wont a more pipeline card be outdated slower than one that has less pipelines?
