Life expectancy

My old Dell 200 mhz still runs perfectly after 9 years, CMOS battery and all. Same with my IBM PS/2 8mhz pc built in 1988, so in my experience they've lasted quite a while. Maybe I've just been lucky, though.

You will likely be thinking very violent thoughts toward it by the time any of the solid state components fail. And even if they do fail in as little as 7 years, what will it cost you to get one twice as good then? $150 of today's US dollars?
