does the 7800GTX surpass the the 6800Ultra by that much? since the price gap between is very small...

yes, i even saw on a benchmark (about 90% positive i read it correctly) that the 7800G's passes DUAL SLI 6800 U's

What are you talking about?

Every bench I was seeing was showing the 7800 hitting like...7k or maybe 8k in 3dmark05....6800Ultra in SLI hits 10K easily.

it sort of depends on what game or app. sometimes the 7800 GTX doesn't get much more than a single 6800 Ultra, sometimes it gets more than twice dual 6800 Ultra's. in 3dmark05, the dual 6800 Ultra's perform better.

Here are some benches:

3dmark 05'
DOOM 3

Not that big of a performance gap between SLI 7800's and SLI 6800's.
But yea check out all the benchmarks at the bottom of the screen.

The 7800 GTX is about 20% faster than the 6800 Ultra, actually more worth of the title of 6900 than a new generation. However, where it really shines is in its image quality and its AA. Basically, it is much more efficient at implying anti-aliasing without sacrificing too many FPS. Also, it includes something called transparent AA which will anti-alias things like foliage or chainlinked fences, that were not anti-aliased on previous cards. As far as performance/image quality, you can't beat the 7800GTX now. But when it comes to price/value, the 7800GTX doesn't look all that great when you can get a 6800 GT for $280 and overclock it to 6800 Ultra speeds, which in reality is only marginally slower than the 7800GTX.

The real comparison is the 7800GTX vs. X850XT PE benchmarks in 3DMARK05.

Average 7800GTX score is 7788 in 1024x768 no AA or AF
Average XT850XT PE score is 6400 in 1024x768 no AA or AF

You would think that the next generation GFX card would give you more then 1,100 points in 3Dmark05.

I've overclocked my X800XT PE to 550/1.2Ghz with CAT 5.6 I can get around 6,800 in 1024x768 no AA or AF in 3Dmark05.

I bet that when the X900's launch you;ll see benchmarks of close to 8,000 - 8,500 for a single card. And i bet "crossfire" will bring 12,500+

havoc, 3dmark is a heavy directx benchmark and we all know that ATI gets an edge from directx engines
