Alright, I've come to my lapse of knowledge; My laptop ( a Gateway Solo 5300) has an intermittent display problem that i cannot determine the source of: There's a line at the bottom of the screen, that will occassionally go off, stay off for up to an hr, and then comes back on.

What i've come to kind of realization is that it maybe a video cable; if it is, and i've sort of deducted it is, (because a cable problem would be intermittent, wouldn't it?), is it a semi-possible replacement?

Just as easily, I could take it to a professional shop, but since this is part of my future field, I'd like to do it myself if possible.

Please elaborate on what you mean by "loose contacts"; like the screws holding the LCD to the frame being too loose/tight, or the pins on the video cable going from Mobo to Display adapter?

I had an intermitent fault with a normal desktop lcd monitor kinda similar to your problem.

Turns out it was the PSU on the way out.

A new PSU sorted the problem.

just thought i'd add something else to worry about :)
