how do AMD/INTEL frequencies compare. If two processors are clocked at 1.8 GHz, is one better?

If both was 1.8ghz then the amd one would kill the intel one. This is due to the fact that amd does alot more in one clock cycle then intel does. They took different stragies. AMD tryed to make there cpu do the most in one clock cycle while intel tryed to see how fast they could get there cpus to go.

Intel has longer pipelines, so it will do well in complicated tasks, but AMD will beat it in simple tasks.

Take for example a car assembly line. Pretend Intel has 10 workers, while AMD has only 5. Intel's workers specialize in certain tasks. AMD workers, because there are less of them, are more generally specialized. If a jaguar is ordered to be made, the Intel workers will complete it faster because they each are very specialized, and work very well with a complicated car like the Jaguar. AMD will work slower, because it has less people who are less specialized. They have to take time to figure out how to put the parts together for the Jaguar. For simpler tasks however, AMD will become faster. Take for example, a toyota corolla. Because it is very simple to build, it only takes 5 steps. AMD, having 5 workers, complete the work very fast an efficiently. Intel, however still has 10 workers. It has to split the 5 very simple tasks for the toyota into 10 tasks, therefore making the procedure take more time.
