why are there multiple root servers (13 of them)

i mean within each root server group, you have multiple locations for each root server, so dont you get the distribution effect out of that?

i guess this is related

what is ARIN & RIPE IP search

an arin or ripe search will tell you who owns the IP address you enter.

dont know what you mean by multiple root servers though

the root servers just ensure that dns information is easily located. If you don't have root servers then your dns system will have to discover all the information for itself and that takes time. There are so many simply for redundancy.

what do you mean by "your dns system"

i mean that the 13 dns servers are good redundancy and then within the 13 dns servers you have more duplication.

why so much duplication, wasn't the original 13 server duplication enough?
