i've got a p1 laptop, tha's "optimized" for win 95.....so....if there's a linux avaibale that coule be loaded onto it tha's suggested, would be appricated.

laptop is just for note taking in college classes.

Slackware, would be just the thing your looking for, Has built in fluxbox very lightweight. Ubuntu is awesome, however probably A little heavy on recources for your pentium 1 laptop.

if you have problems with a modern distro, you can still obtain copies of Slackware-3.3 (if you have no CD-ROM), or Slackware-4.0 if you do have an optical drive. those may be a little easier with memory requirements than a modern distro, and many-a-machine has needed 3.3 for its floppy-based installation.

i have an old laptop (366mhz p2, 96mb ram, 6gb hd) and i run damn small linux 1.2 on it. runs very well for being so old, and you can use apt-get to install extra programs for it.

It really depends on what you consider "old" for a well-tuned linux system, 366MHz is plenty - even for a modern distro. Apart from the latest from SuSE/Novell or Fedora/RedHat, anything modern would run great (of course gentoo would take a lil while for a full compile ; )

The P1 machine is closer to what I'd call old.

just my .02USD
