... well by my standard. I am hoping to spend around 320 pounds ($580) upgrading the key components of my computer. One of the moves I am hoping to take is to 64 bits.

The features I was hoping to upgrade are my -

MOTHERBOARD
Asus A7N8X-X

GRAPHICS CARD
nVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440

PROCESSOR
Athlon XP 2100+

I was thinking along the lines of getting a PCI Express motherboard with a 939 socket with support for duel channel RAM. For a graphics card I was hoping to get a GeForce 6600GT.

I'm not too sure about processors though. Maybe a Athlon 64 3000+?

Also, is there any things I should look out for when buying things like price drops in the near future or new technologies that may render my new hardware obsolete.

Just some suggestions that keep you in your price range. Dont know what kind of power supply you have but you may want to upgrade that as well. I think this is a pretty decent setup for the money. The venice is good for oc'ing if you plan on doing that too.

I just checked my power supply, its 350W :S Im not too sure if thats good or bad.

ATX Switching Power Unit

Power Master Model - MA-350atx

That is a great combination there, stick with it. No matter what these people say, HOLD UR GROUND ON THE ABIT!!!

Smart move with the Venice core, and the 6800gt is just pure gold.

Good luck!
