pci slots and crazy cards

i am trying to install a pci sound card on a used duel proc mainboard i just got. when windows tries to install drivers for this card my computer freezes. the card is tested and it is good. i tried changing pci ports they all work for my lan card but not the sound card. same problem everytime. any ideas

Driver conflicts maybe? How does Windows try to install drivers? Does it use Windows drivers or do you use the drivers that came with the sound card?

i took the card back to the shop . they were able to plug and play it just like that

Driver conflict is the only thing I can think of right now. What drivers are conflicting, I don't know.

anyway i can check never delt with this on xp pro
