I might be mistaken but...isn't there a defragger that comes with Windows?

Yes, Windows comes with a lite version of diskeeper. The problem is it's very slow & inefficient and a manual process. Most people forget to defrag regularly or just hate doing it because it takes too long and you can't really do much when it's running.

A third party defrag program can be scheduled to run automatically and runs in the background while using your computer. Like dumdum8684 said, it will also defrag the 2 most important files; master file table & page file.

Also a regular defragmentation means stability, speed and freedom from crashes, blue screens, freezeups which may be caused due to a fragmented HD. Nowadays with the number of hotfixes, patches, updates and so many other huge files that we store and delete from the system, its all the more important to make it a part of regular system maintenance...much easier with the automatic tools..no daily hassles of checking.

Agreed - defrag should be done regularly.
