I am getting into coverting many of my old records to CD's and VHS tapes to DVD's. Need some direction as to where I can find help when needed especially on what hardware is needed and how to hook everything up neatly. Any forums would also be helpful.

to copy an analog input like records all you need is a line from the record player to the input on the sound card. usually you would use mini-audio connector which is a regular connector same as on most headphones for a walkman.

you would use any program that can record input like soundforge and save the sound as a wave or mp3. you would than burn the music with nero or any other burning software.

to get VHS to DVD you need a dvd burner and a video card that accepts video input from your vcr. in this case you need RCA inputs. you can also get a tv capture card but this has the best picture quality for recording:

capture the picture to MPEG2 with that video card and use nero or any burning software to create a dvd-video disc

if you need specifics i can help as i have a machine that does exactly this purpose, well actually it is my pr0n server

LOL... pr0n... i didnt know anybody else used that word .. haha but yeah my friend is actually in the buisness of changing VHS to DVD's... not sure who leagle it is but yeah... i was talken to him he said all u need is the special vid card and everything will be self explanatory from thier...
