Whenever i restart my computer, or boot it up i always get this message...

"Please select the operating system to start:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (bootscreen)
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
Press enter to choose.

For troubleshooting and advanced startup options for Windows, press F8."

When i press F8, it just gives lots of choices like, start windows in safe mode, VGA mode, normally, etc.

I really want to get rid of this screen, it gets really annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

Ive had this problem before, after doing a repair or something along those lines. The file which you want to edit is 'BOOT.INI'. This file when loaded during the boot stage give the user a choice of which Operating System to load.

If you go to a Win Explorer and tools > Folder Options, uncheck 'hide all operating system files' or something or other. Navigate to the route of your drive and open your BOOT.INI file via notepad. Or for a graphical alternative, right click 'my computer', select the advanced tab, startup and recovery...

These files control how your system boots so be careful when editing anything.

easy fix...

start > run > then type msconfig

when it loads... click the tab labeled BOOT.INI then click the button labeled check all boot paths... if it says they are all ok the just look for the one you want gone and remove it...

both ways posted will work the same
