hey, just wanting to know a bit about oc'ing. i have been told that it can seriously reduce the life of your hardware. i have a dell system, so i cannot oc the processor, as i cannot change the fsb or the multiplier in the BIOS, but i can oc the GPU core and memory. i have ATITool, but am a bit scared to use it. my GPU has no fan, just a small heat sink. how easily will it overheat?

specs:

p4 3.00Ghz ht
512Mb DDR2 RAM
ATI X300SSE 128Mb
Dell mobo

i did try once, just a 10Mhz increase on both, and the GPU got quite hot so i got scared and set it back to defaults. since then i have installed a case fan on the back on my pc just above the graphics card, but i dont know how much difference it will make

If you have adequate case cooling, you will be fine. Just go in small increments of 5 to 10 mhz at a time and monitor the temps.

yea only problem is that i have speedfan but i can only get the harddrive temp. i dont think the hardware monitoring chip is compatible. the cpu fan does speed up and slow down on its own under load tho...
i only know the gpu was hot coz i had the case open and i put my hand near it.
