NEC DVD Burner

my dvd burner is a 16x max and the dvd+r's that im using are a 8x max , but my question is......is there a reason why when i burn dvd's that it only writes at between 1x and 2x even tho i have selected it to write at 8x? It's taking me 43 minutes to burn a 4gig dvd. thanks

check the diskspeeds. its been a while since ive delt with dvd burners (tape is more fun) but if I remember correctly the speed is also set by the dvds aswell. can some one comment on this one.

Install the latest firmware.

also make sure you dvd burner is set to master.

and that dma is on in your ide controller.

also like said above the firmware should be updated.

have you tried other media. maybe what your using sucks.
