Hey

I am running on a windows 200 professional operating system and I was wondering when you defragment some system files which I will list below cannot be put back into theri proper place. Does anyone know how to defrag system files like these.

Volume (C:):

Used space = 3,233 MB
Free space = 73,075 MB
Percent free space = 95 %

Total fragmentation = 0 %
File fragmentation = 0 %
Free space fragmentation = 0 %

File fragmentation
Total files = 14,583
Average file size = 254 KB
Total fragmented files = 6
Total excess fragments = 9

Master File Table (MFT) fragmentation
Total MFT size = 16,926 KB
MFT record count = 15,453
Percent MFT in use = 91 %
Total MFT fragments = 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fragments File Size Files that did not defragment
2 1 KB \WINNT\system32\config\software.LOG
2 1 KB \WINNT\system32\config\default.LOG
2 1 KB \WINNT\system32\config\SECURITY.LOG
5 1 KB \Documents and Settings\Administrator\ntuser.dat.LOG
2 442 KB \WINNT\ShellIconCache

Just use windows deframenting or get O&O Defrag. It doesn't matter if some files are still fragmented afterwards.

Files which are in use cannot get defragmented. Specialized automatic scheduling defrag softtwares may defrag such files when they are not in use.

To defragment the Master File Table and pagefile, you'll need to get a third party defrag program. Those programs have the option to defrag those 2 files before Windows starts.
