About bare bones systems...

I am wondering if this sounds like a good system to any of you. It's a 250$ bare bones, I already have the ram, hard drive, cd-rom, moniter, printer, blah blah blah. Anyway, what do you think? Does it sound good and what are it high points and flaws? Also, is a 2.50gz pretty fast?

Intel Celeron 2.50 GHZ CPU -- Celerons are good for everyday usage but lack when it comes to Floating point math (Gaming) it you don't need the cutting edge hardware to game a 2.50 Celeron is very good

400 Mhz FSB -- a 400mhz bus is a bit slow you can get a 800mhz bus with a P4

Ok, so in a nutshell here's what your buying:


a mid tower case with 350 PSU,
an ASUS integrated mtb with built in sound/video/nic
intel 2.50 gig celeron CPU- do they make these? cause I've never seen one... might be overclockzored :-\

everything else mentioned is just the seller giving you extra strokes...

all for $250?

not a good deal IMHO...

Price watch says 2.4 gig cele = $67, 2.6 gig ~=$90
a decent no thrills mid -tower case = $50 MAX! shop around boys, you'll find em even cheaper!
ASUS # P4S533-MX = $63 @ newegg.

whats that add up to? $180 or around abouts.

Bottom line is, if you can't assembly your own machine, then pay the extra $50+ to have someone do it for you. Otherwise shop around and get a good deal on the parts via the web, save some cash bro.

Integrated video is slow due to its dependence on system RAM but it can be easily remidied with a video card at a future date

im using a processor with 266mghz fsb,
dont seem slow. even when im gaming it doesnt.

You might want to check a review on the Celeron before purchasing - the Celerons are pretty crippled in performance, when compared to an equivalent (or even slower) P4.

Celeron

With a celeron processor there is no onboard memory cache so it has to go to the ram for memory which is why its a little slower, if you arnt interrested in gamming though its not a big deal and you will save youself some money. If you want a gamming machine you should seriously consider something else.
