...launch date will be June 27, 2005. Like the 3700+ and the 4000+ it is based on the 90nm San Diego core, runs at 2.8Ghz and has 1MB L2 cache as well as the SSE3 instructions.

Not anything too mind boggling since a 3000+ can match a stock FX-55 with the right know how, but a nice addition to the single core family to go along with the release of the X2s. :)

But the FX-55 will OC even higher

They always do...
No not always...as always it depends on cooling, so those chips are already maxing out their core structure as it is.....they will indeed go very high and 3GHz isn't uncommon at all, but that's still generally water cooling and the venices and san diegos will do the same....plus luck of the draw is there too......clock for clock though the FX-55 is faster than a venice so 2.8GHz FX-55 would beat out a 2.8GHz venice.....it wouldn't take much for the FX-55 to beat it out of course, but as far as stock goes, a 3000+ or 3200+ venice can technically be more powerful than the FX-55, the SSE3 instructions help too

Is the San Diego core going to be the last single core only core?

Comparing older fx-55 to the same core chips the FX-55's overclocked higher...
Yeah because newcastles sucks....which for a while was the main core.....then winnies become good OC'ers, and now venices and san diegos are beyond superb

Winnies are still decent though - they still oc better than anything intel had to offer. but yea, the venices and san diegos are out of this world
