Should I trust Speedfans s.m.a.r.t readings

Obviously it's going to happen, just all depends on when.

How does a hard drive die 'hard' exactly? :p

I dig your meaning.

I actually emailed the creator about that. I bought a new WD 40GB last year. It gave it 70% health right out of the box. Been that way ever since. He says that some HD's aren't recognized that well.

well the hard drive I have had for less than a year and speedfan has said this forever I just got around to post about it.

By hard, I mean HARD. It seems the actuator arm or something was off, and it scratched parts of the hard drive all up. Lost two windows XPs, only to find it not bootable at all, or even recognizable (Boot secotr perhaps? Or just too much damage).

This was, of course, before I set the hard drive on a metal case and shorted out the hard drive controller. And melted the chip.

This is what hard means.
