6800 vs 6800 gt

I saw that the GT is about $100 more than a regular 6800. What exactly is the difference? Is it worth the extra $100? On newegg there is:

the biggest and most important difference is that the GT has 16 pipes, while the vanilla has 12. those 4 pipes make a big difference

That is helpful for a comparison from the Ultra and GT but it doesn't show a regular 6800. It does have a 6600 though and would assume the 6800 only out performs it a little.....

The 6800 GT performs signifcantly better than the 6800, due to those pipes

Anyways, I would get the GT. It will give you a noticeable difference in performance.

I heard that the new line of nvidia cards comes out soon, anyone know when? Maybe I can wait a bit because the price should drop then.

Also, since it seems that a GT is the way to go, if I went with a (much) cheaper 6600 would that be a big performance loss? I play games like WoW HL2 and Doom 3.

6600 would be a huge drop. much, MUCH less powerful than the 6600 GT.

As for the G70, its supposed to come out this summer. however, judging by the specs, ATi is poised to dominate this round

At this point, I would wait for the new cards to come out from ATI and Nvidia. Then, I would buy one of the new cards, or get a good deal on the 6800 GT when the price goes down. If you buy now, get the 6800 GT. There is a big difference between GT and regular 6800. It seems pretty much all Nvidia cards without a suffix suck.

I would guess the 6600gt even does better, but I'd never be able to substantiate it.
