IDE Cable question

I will have a CD drive and a Hard drive hooked up with IDE cable(s). Should I have them each run off their own cable or have them run off seperate cables? I am asking this becuase I heard when there are 2 devices hooked up on one IDE ribbon cable it slows it down.

have the harddrive on one channel (its own hole cable) and the DVD drive on its personal cable.

If you have them both on one cable, than they can't read or write at the same time (coping files from a cd to the HDD will be slower)

Remember to get rounded IDE cables to help the air flow.

for right now I only have ribbon cables should I still put them on seperate cables?

Yes. They will be like a sail in the case, catching some wind. Shame you can't go sailing with them.
