I have a 512mb chip of PC2100 Ram and 512mb chip of DDR400

I want to have them working at their highest possible performance. My motherboard is the Asus A7N8X-X.

What settings and physical slots should I use?

Im pretty sure you mobo doesnt use dual channel, so it doesnt matter which slots you use.

Your DDR400(PC3200) Ram will underclock itself to PC2100.

For optimization: There really isnt anything, unless you had another stick of PC3200 (or the maximum of what your mobo can support).

Your motherboard uses PC3200. 3200 is the data transfer rate for the RAM (3200MB/s).

So, that means that your RAM will be able to transfer data at 3200MB/s instead of 2100MB/s.

There is just so much to keep up with. I thought I was getting good at all this PC stuff but when you take something that seems simple like memory there are alot more things that have to be known.

Would I be best taking out the PC2100 until I get another stick?

So will the slower but larger quantity be worse than the smaller quantity but higher speed?
