ok, so i figured it was time i did upgrade my computer a little bit, and i don't know a whole lot about computers, but i was wondering if the stuff i'm buying is o.k to play newer games like doom3 or HL2 maybe.

-AMD Athlon64 3400+ (2.4GHz) 512k L2 Cache, Socket 754
-Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB DDR w/DVI, TV-Out
-Gigabyte K8NS Pro nForce3 250GB w/Audio, Gigabit LAN, FireWire, ATA & SATA-RAID, DDR400, Socket 754
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB - 7200RPM, 8MB Cache, SATA150
-GeiL Ultra-X Platinum (Ultra Low Latency) 512Mb PC3200 DDR400 2 2-2-5 5ns

And I was just wondering if a socket 939 motherboard will work with 754 processor.
Thanks for any help/info.

You got everythign waaaaaaaaaaaay out of whack what is your budget?

To be honest, it's one of the worst setups I have seen. An oldskool (powerful) processor (socket 754 bottlenecks your RAM) with an oldskool graphics card. And expensive low latency ram

The names "Socket 939" and "Socket 754" pretty much tell you that they aren't compatible.....it's two completely different sockets so no a 754 processor won't work, it won't even fit into the socket because the number tells you how many pins the processor have.

Doom3 isn't going to play that well since it doesn't like ATI cards.....HL2 should be able to be played at like 1024x768, max graphics with no AA and no AF, I'd suggest you look into a 6600GT graphics card

Some 939 and 754 mobo's accept both, but some dont. I have a DFI LanParty UT SLI-DR and it can run a 939 or 754.
