ok, i ran the free antivirus software from microtrend, and i accidentaly deleted the system32.exe file because it was infected. now i get a dialog box saying that it is missing every time i restart.

Ok, here is what is in the box:

Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\System32.exe'. Make Sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and click Search.

I get this every time i reboot, it doesn't seem critical, since i can use my comp, but i would like to know how to replace it.

After doing the search, I came across a site, it didn't help much, just lead me to another search instead. Then I saw a registry key, and they described that the system32.exe is a trojan and how to delete the registry key that cause the box to show up upon a restart/boot up. so I did that, and I no longer get that dialog box.

Nice...gotta love your resources, eh?
I loved the "System File Checker" in 9x. They need to bring that back.
