setting up W2k3 server (A.D.)

i have a windows 2000 server setup as active directory.

I just installed windows 2003 server on another machine (that will be running MS exchange). I want to set this 2k3 server on the existing 2000 domain. I can connect to the domain, but when i run dcpromo to set it up as a backup active directory machine, it says that it cannot find the domain.

i've read (on MS K.B.) that i need to run adprep on the 2000 server, because 2003 server is not compatible with 2000 domains.

i ran it, no errors. still cant add the 2003 to the 2000 domain.

am i doing something wrong? or missing something? Is this even POSSIBLE??

There is something that you have to enable to connect to Win 2000 server domain controllers. I remember running into it, but since I am not doing what you are doing, I didnt pay much attention to it. It is a setting, a simple check box, or just choosing something from a list. I'm sorry i could not be of more help.
