### Should i go win2000? ###

Ok at the moment im running windows xp pro sp2, now i was wondering how much performance increase i would get if i changed over to windows 2000? This comp runs xp alright but gets a little slugish when i open loads of stuff. So should i run 2000 does it use much less resources? or should i stick with xp?

SPECS

p3 1Ghz
256 Ram
32mb internal graphics

256MB is not a lot of RAM for XP.
you can:
increase paging file
close some programs
get another 256MB stick of RAM
disable the XP theme
completely reinstall XP (you'd be surprised how much faster it is after a reinstall)
or install 2000

I would recommend keeping XP, because of higher compatibility. but yes, 2000 will run faster with 256MB RAM than XP will

Thanks for the advice, i had already done:

increase paging file
close some programs
get another 256MB stick of RAM
disable the XP theme

I shall think about it

Don't worry about the compatability. I'm running Win2k pro on my home system and haven't found a single program that runs on XP but doesn't on 2k.

Of you're looking for a core speedup, just installing 2k won't help all that much. If you disable the WinXP theme in XP you're looking at almost the same resource use. (Quite an over simplification, but it's true).

try some tweak software (win boost) and system maintenance software like system mechanic.....
ged rid of junk files and obselete registry fields...
visit tweakxp.com....
