Why so freakin' long?

I just installed HL2 and CS:S. When I try to play CS:S, a window pops up that says "Updating Counter-Strike: Source" and gives the update time as 106 minutes. Why is it so long? I have Cox broadband, not dial-up or anything, so I have no clue why. Any help?

Its not u. Steam is a stupid program that valve uses to "validate" ur files b4 u play. Hacker protection. DOnt worry, its just a 1st time thing. From now on, it will instantly start up after first time

I'm re-installing it, but I don't remember that super-long update thing. HL2 took about 5 minutes, which I understand, but this 106 minute crap is ridiculous.

dont reinstall it! ull have to sit through it again

for me, HL 2 was about 2 hours and CS Source was 1

Well it's sending alot of LARGE files across your line.

That's a bit long, but nothing to complain about

You can right click on steam > monitor and see how much network useage it's using.

Steam is on a 16 gigabit connection that is rarely going above 50% but it also try's to not hog all your bandwidth.
