Different ram readings?

Ok just upgraded pc im going to give basic info i got 2 512mb sticks equaling 1gb of ram and on the first black start up screen it says i got 640 main memory and 1048mb of extended and total. In windows i got 960mb of ram and also in any other program in xp. When i go to bios i get same as start boot screen. Any ideas why im reading either 1048 or 960 and not 1024mb?

what kind/how old is ur mobo?? Maybe firmware on mobo needs upgrading.

try updating ur bios, and what ram do u have?

It's probably reading 960 in windows because you have 64 megs of shared video memory. As for the 1048, no idea. It must be nice to have a gig of RAM that doesn't cause your system to reboot randomly.

yeah its kingston ddr 233 value ram
