I am shopping for a laptop and have come across two that seem to fit closely what I need. One has a Pentium M 1.5 Ghz and the other an AMD 64 Athlon3000+. Can someone please shed some light on the differences between these two CPUs? How does the speed of each compare?

Well they are two very different CPU's

The 1.5GHZ will be just under "2600+" peformance in AMD terms, but this CPU is great on battery life

THe 3000+ is a peformance CPU, but your battery :wooha:

ok I am not familar with the 64-bit processors, so can you tell me how the 3000+ speed runs compared to the 1.5ghz? Thanks.

AMD uses a more streamlined and sophisticated architecture with their CPUs. They accomplish more with less, hence the lower clock speeds

Intel mobiles are pretty close...

I guess what I'm asking is, in terms percent. How much speed would I gain by going with the Athlon over the Pentium?
