personally I put the hard drive by itself and the roms together. Unless you are doing a serious amount of copying from one disk to another you should not have any problems. I never have.

I use....ide 1 hard drive master. ide 2 cdrw secondary master, dvdrom secondary slave. make sure the jumpers are set correctly on the back of all your drives. good luck.
