After deleting some files I was unable to reboot my PC. I restored the files but ran into a series of problems with my printer and network which had been working ok before.

When I try the "System Restore" on my Windows XP Pro PC I get a Rundll error message saying "An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll, control_rundll" C:\Windows\System32\sysdm.cpl", System.

What should I do to "revive" the System restore feature? TIA.
Francois. :sigh:

I tried the system restore in safe mode but it didn't work either.

When you say "boot to the XP CD and repair" do you mean re-install XP? I don't see a repair utility on the CD. If I reinstall will I loose my settings? TIA. Francois.

With CD in, You could just put this in the RUN command box and hit enter.
rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

That should repair the system restore for you.
