Good afternoon everyone,

I was wonderng if it is truly dangerous to purchase white label hard drives? In other words, are they relibiable?

Are there companies that warranty white label hard drives? Past 90 days?

Also, is there a difference between maxtor, samsung, ibm,
seagate, etc.?

What is the advantage of cache buffering? Is 8mb way better than 2mb?

Any referrals to a reliable company?

Thanks everyone!!!

Cheers, Rob

i would not say dangerous. but a little risky. check with the manu. and see if an extra warranty can be purchased. I beleive that western digital will allow further warranty to be bought. As far as the buffer ? i have not seen many benchmarks that show a big difference on the buffer size, but i have noticed that for streaming video or moving files it seems faster to me.

Don't go by lable, go by who sells it to you.

And buffer size makes a HUGE difference. 8meg is 4 x's the normal amount of data being held in backup as data is being seeked.

I saw a huge improvement in drive speed when I put in my drive with the 8meg buffer.
