Hi all,

My computer is crashing with the blue screen, and I was wondering if anyone could make sense of the following stop information that I'm receiving:

***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xF942B2CF, 0xF824757C, 0x00000000)

*** vinyl97.sys - Address F942B2CF base at F9424000, DateStamp 41ff4026

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the vinyl97.sys is a sound driver. uninstall reinstall the sound card. check for any conflicts with other devices.

Thanks guys,

OK, I knew that it was the soundcard driver, but it is not separate - my mobo has it onboard. I've already tried to update the latest drivers.

Questions: How do I isolate the soundcard if it is built into the mobo? Does this mean my mobo is incompatable in some way?

it could be conflicting with another device on the mobo. check your irqs with msinfo32.exe

or it could be bad hardware, but lets not assume this just yet. You can disable the onboard sound in bios.

Disable the onboard sound. If that doesn't help, make sure you have everything updated.

BIOS, mobo drivers, northbridge drivers, sound-chip drivers, etc. It's all gotta be up to date.

Also, check with the manuf.'s website for any notes about possible problems or patches. (You can even email them about your problem and see what they say.)
